SEAI is presenting a final 2-day Passive House Planning
Package (PHPP) workshop on Tuesday and Wednesday 14th-15th
February 2012 in Dublin.
The workshop will be delivered by Passivhaus Institut certified
and accredited trainers.
The passive house standard is a specific construction standard
for buildings which results in good thermal comfort conditions
all year round without traditional space heating systems and
without active cooling.
The PHPP is a clearly structured design software package
developed by the world renowned Passivhaus Institut. It can
be used by architects, engineers, consultants and designers
etc. to assist in the careful design and modeling of any building
to achieve the passive house standard.
The PHPP looks at the building fabric and key components
in a passive house and includes tools for -
- Calculating the U-values of components with high thermal
insulation
- Calculating energy balances
- Designing comfort ventilation
- Calculating the heat load (including Irish climatic data)
- Summer comfort calculations - and
- ... many other useful tools for reliable design of passive
houses.
The energy requirement of passive house is -
- Annual space heating requirement of 15kWh/m²a treated
floor area
- The upper limit for total primary energy demand for space
and water heating, ventilation, electricity for fans and
pumps, appliances and lighting not exceeding 120kWh/m²a,
regardless of energy source - and
- The air leakage test results must not exceed 0.6 air changes
per hour using 50 Pascal over pressurisation and under pressurisation
testing.
There is no official 'recipe' to achieving the passive
house standard - every project is unique and all passive houses
have to be modelled with the PHPP. Developed by the world
renowned Passivhaus Institut the PHPP is a clearly structured
design software package, based on a series of extensive and
interlinked data sheets. It is used by architects, engineers,
consultants and designers etc. to assist in the careful design,
modelling and operation of any building to achieve the passive
house standard - in short, all passive houses have to be modelled
with the PHPP.
The 2-day workshop offers participants a comprehensive insight
and the fundamentals in designing and operating passive houses
- including an indepth interactive demonstration of the PHPP.
Over the two days the workshop will cover the following topics
-
- Definition of a Passive House
- Basics construction physics
- Introduction and verification of a Passive House project
- Delegates can either work on one of their own projects
or on a sample case study
- Windows in the Passive House
- Calculation of U-values in the PHPP
- Input of areas and windows
- Input of shading data
- Ventilation in Passive House
- Heating systems in Passive House
- Completion of the example project.
PRICE
- Workshop only: €195
- Workshop and PHPP: €260
Both rates include all refreshments and proceedings.
REGISTRATION: Please note that places are
strictly limited to 40 participants; places will be allocated
on a first come basis. All delegates are required to book
and pay online www.seai.ie/bookshop.
All delegates need to provide their own lap top with a copy
of the PHPP software loaded and ready to use.
