Join Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council (DLRCC) and hundreds
of millions of other people and organisations across 4,000
cities in 88 countries worldwide in signing up for Earth
Hour 2010 in an effort to reduce the impact of global
warming.
An Cathaoirleach, Councillor Marie Baker, is urging all residents
and businesses to support this initiative and share responsibility
for reducing greenhouse gas emissions by turning off all non-essential
lights for one hour at 8.30pm on Saturday, March 27th.
Earth Hour is a campaign to encourage businesses,
communities and individuals to take a simple step to become
more energy efficient and deliver a powerful message for action
on global warming.
Through a number of energy saving measures,
the Council has reduced its CO2 emissions
by almost 4,000 tonnes and trimmed its energy bill by nearly
€40,000 per annum.
Many Council staff have started cycling to
work, thanks to the Government’s cycle to work scheme and
the organisation continues to work with CODEMA to find new
ways to reduce our energy usage.
You can continue to make a difference also
- at home and at work every day - by taking small steps such
as -
- Switching to compact fluorescent light
bulbs.
- Turning off any appliances or equipment when not in use.
- Using less hot water - spend one minute
less in the shower.
- Turning-off lights at work at the
end of the day.
