Put all your clean plastics in the Green Bin

From the 1st January 2009, for the first time ever, you can now put ALL clean dry plastics into your Green Bin for collection.

This means that all categories of plastic - including bottles, bags, trays, cartons, films, packaging and hard plastic items - can all now go into your Green Bin.

As with the previous collection service, all materials require some preparation before they are put into the Green Bin. The following simple steps should be followed when preparing materials for collection -

  1. Remove all lids and caps
  2. Clean and dry all materials
  3. Flatten all materials.

Greyhound Recycling and Recovery have replaced Oxigen as the operators of the Green Bin collection service in the Dublin Region since the 1st January 2009. The changeover will not effect existing services and collection dates for 2009 are as per your green bin calendar.

All the materials collected in Green Bins by Greyhound will now be taken to the Dublin Local Authorities' brand new Materials Recovery Facility in Ballymount, where all materials are mechanically segregated using the latest available technologies.

After the materials have been segregated, they are then baled and made available for further processing or recovery off-site.

By increasing the types of materials that are now accepted in the Green Bin, the Local Authorities are aiming to achieve their recycling target of 59% as set out in the Regional Waste Plan.
