EPS, the Cork-based water-treatment specialist, has entered
into a €2 million research partnership to develop small-scale
anaerobic digestion systems for meat processors.
The company will work with the European Livestock and Meat
Trading Association in Brussels, British companies Jewitts,
AEL and Wardell Armstrong, Danish partner Xergia and Vogelsang
in Germany to develop the system for use in localised waste
treatment processes.
The 3-year project will be part-funded by the EU Eco-Innovation
Fund 2009 under the Seventh Framework Programme.
‘‘EPS has had a long association with the meat processing
sector in Ireland and Britain and we are excited about the
positives this technology development will create," said Patrick
Buckley, sales and marketing director, EPS.
‘‘A major driver for such technology is the need to reduce
the environmental impact of meat processing - but it is important
that this reduction takes place without compromising the industrial
competitiveness of the sector.
‘‘Our approach with the project is to enable transferability
and replication of the system by validating it at multiple
sites across the EU."
