A range of possible solutions to reduce the problem of
discarding by the Irish fishing fleet is outlined in The Marine
Institute and BIM Atlas of Demersal Discarding - Scientific
Observations and Potential Solutions - which also contains
a detailed compendium of discards by the fleet on a stock
by stock basis.
The atlas was compiled with the support of the Irish fishing
industry, to inform the EU-wide discard debate, to identify
where action needs to be taken and to inform on the appropriate
measures.
