Trevor Sargent TD, Minister for Food and Horticulture at
the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, has welcomed
the signing of a service agreement with Global Trust Certification
Ltd (GTC).
Based on this service agreement, GTC
will now operate controls in the organic sector on the Department's
behalf.
"The addition of Global Trust Certification Ltd as an approved
organic certification body will especially provide the Organic
Aquaculture Sector with an Irish-based Certification Body
who already have much experience in this area from their past
implementation of private standards," noted Minister Sargent.
The Minister commented that it was timely that this signing
should take place the week before the Biofach
trade fair in Germany, which is the most important trade event
for organic food in the international calendar and is the
largest international showcase for the organic sector.
"There are fourteen Irish companies exhibiting at Biofach
in Germany next week," Minister Sargent said - "and this will
give them an excellent opportunity to promote their produce
on a world stage."
