Mallusk man fined £2,250 for unauthorised waste offences

A Mallusk man has been fined a total of £2,250 plus court costs of £37 at Laganside Magistrates’ Court in Belfast for waste offences.

Mr Stephen Moran of Grange Lane, Mallusk admitted operating a Waste Transfer Station at an address on Seven Mile Straight, Crumlin, Co Antrim as part of his skip hire business, A2B Skips, without planning permission or a waste management licence.

When officers from the Northern Ireland Environment Agency visited the site in July and August 2011, they found approximately 50 skips on the site, many of which contained controlled waste. A number of deposits of controlled waste were also found on the ground adjacent to the skips.

Waste types found on the site included construction and demolition waste, ceramics, wood, metal, paper, window frames, glass, household waste, tyres, furniture, electrical equipment and carpet.
