Waterford schools go back to class

Businesses and schools from Dungarvan and the surrounding areas of Waterford have been finding out about the latest ways to cut their energy costs at a special energy efficiency briefing held by leading independent energy supplier Energia.

The briefing was designed to educate the managers of local organisations about energy efficiency, allowing them to further reduce their energy costs. The purpose of this training is to help the companies develop and implement their own energy management systems, helping them cut their energy bills (and also their CO2 emissions) by 10%. By reducing their usage by 10%, each company will significantly reduce their annual CO2 emissions.

Local businesses that attended included Daltons Jewellers, Capitol Cleaners, Sash Windows and Floxon Ltd. Also in attendance were local schools Colaiste na Rinne, St Declan’s National School (Ardmore) St Joseph’s Primary School (Dungarvan) and Scoil Garchán (Dungarvan).

Cormac Mannion, Energy Services Manager, Energia commented - “Energia has developed considerable expertise in the area of energy efficiency training. We have helped to boost many small businesses’ competitiveness, including those in the SME and community sectors, by giving them the knowledge and tools that help them save money by reducing their energy consumption.

“There are also valuable environmental benefits - by reducing their usage by 10%, each company will significantly reduce their annual CO2 emissions.

“Energy efficiency can start with simple low cost initiatives such as staff awareness days and for some companies a complete business-wide process has been implemented, including reviewing purchasing processes, conducting an energy audit, implementing staff training and awareness programmes.

“Customers with online metering can analyse their data to identify where they can alter their processes to make better use of lower cost night energy. By conducting a simple energy audit and by introducing various low cost ways of installing materials and equipment, a decrease in energy bills is easily achievable.

" Even by switching off lights when not in use or remembering to power off your PC in the evenings instead of leaving it on standby can lead to substantial saving on your energy bill."
