Students from all over Ireland are taking part in walking
initiatives to show their support for a greener and healthier
environment during this year’s National Walk to School Week,
May 16th - 20th.
Green-Schools across the country are encouraging pupils,
parents and teachers to walk to school by holding events such
as Walk to School days, Walk on Wednesday (WOW), Feet First
Friday, sponsored walks and walking fancy dress competitions.
Schools this year will also be taking part in the Green-Schools
National WOW (Walk on Wednesday) Day on May 18th, to help
An Taisce Green-Schools reach the target of 20,000 students
walking to school all over Ireland.
The week is also an opportunity for schools to learn about
all the benefits of other green travel options on the school
journey, such as cycling, park ‘n’ stride using public transport
or carpooling as alternatives to the private car.
