Cré training course on the Food Waste Regulations and EPA's Municipal Solid Waste - Pre-treatment & Residuals Management

Cré - Composting Association of Ireland - will hold a training c ourse on the Food Waste Regulations and EPA's Municipal Solid Waste - Pre-treatment & Residuals Management on Wednesday 3 March, 2010 at The Heritage Golf & Spa Resort, Killenard, Portlaoise.

Food Waste Regulation
In December 2009, John Gormley, Minister for the Environment, published the Food Waste Regulations (SI 508 of 2009) heralding national legislation for the source separation of food waste from major commercial premises.

These regulations are designed to promote the segregation and recovery of food waste in the commercial sector. They will facilitate achieving the targets set out in the European Commission’s Landfill Directive 99/31/EC for the diversion of biodegradable municipal waste (BMW) from landfill sites to composting and anaerobic digestion plants - and to other forms of biological treatment.

This training course will provide delegates with the first opportunity to learn about these new regulations.

Environmental Protection Agency’s Municipal Solid Waste - Pre-treatment & Residuals Management
The EPA has draft protocols for the Evaluation of Biodegradable Municipal Waste sent to Landfill by Pre-treatment Facilities out for consultation.

The second part of the training course will give an overview of the draft protocols.
