Ireland's first CEN certification of a septic tank

Anua, the environmental systems business owned by Bord na Móna, has received CEN certification for its unique septic tank.

Following rigorous testing at the Institute for Wastewater Technology (PIA Gmbh) in Germany, Anua has been awarded Ireland’s first CEN Certificate for a septic tank in accordance with EN 12566-1.

From 1st May, 2012, Local Authorities in Ireland will be adopting EN 12566-1 (Small Wastewater Treatment Systems for up to 50PT – Part1: Prefabricated Septic Tanks) as the minimum requirement for a new septic tank. Choosing a system with this certification will now be a critical part of applications.

The CEN standard, also adopted by the NSAI, specifies a range of requirements and test methods in relation to septic tank design and performance - specifically watertightness, capacity, hydraulic efficiency and structural behaviour - and acts as a benchmark for systems throughout Ireland and across Europe.

The Anua septic tank, new to the Irish market, bears a unique spherical design. Rather than the standard concrete, it is moulded from glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) and arrives onsite as a complete system, requiring just installation in the ground and connection.
