Work to make one of the country's largest toxic waste dumps
safe has begun.
A Cork County Council team began work at the former Irish
Steel/Ispat site on Haulbowline Island in late August of this
year, a spokesman for the Department of Marine said.
Works to repair the sea wall surrounding the site in order
to prevent flooding at times of high tide were expected to
be completed this weekend, the spokesman said.
In October, the Cabinet signed off on a €40m package to clean-up
the toxic dump in Cork harbour.
