Publication of Bulletin of Vehicle and Driver Statistics, 2007

 

The Department of the Transport has published the Bulletin of Vehicle and Driver Statistics, 2007.

The bulletin contains a broad range of statistical tables covering -

  • the size, composition, age and fuel type of licensed vehicles;
  • details on the first licensing of new and imported used vehicles - and
  • driver licensing.

Some key Statistics include -

  • the total number of licensed vehicles at 31st December, 2007 (2,441,564) represents an increase of some 145,171 units (6.32%) on the 2006 return.
  • In the private car category, the number increased from 1,778,900 in 2006 to 1,882,900 in 2007 (5.85% increase).
  • The number of goods vehicles increased by 27,270 units (8.56%) on the 2006 figures.
  • 246,450 new vehicles and 87,500 imported used vehicles were licensed for the first time in 2007.
  • There were 2.54 million driving licenses current at 31 December 2007.
