IBEC reaction to new climate change policy roadmap

IBEC, the group that represents Irish business, has welcomed the announcement by Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government Phil Hogan’s of a roadmap for the development of Ireland's national climate policy response.

Responding to the announcement, IBEC Head of Energy and Environment Policy, Neil Walker said - "Over the past 12 months, IBEC has consistently argued that relevant Government departments and state agencies need to work together to develop and articulate a cost-effective plan to meet the very challenging 2020 greenhouse gas mitigation targets.

"The recent Durban climate talks have given impetus to the European Commission's longer term policy goals, as outlined in its Low Carbon 2050 Roadmap. Ireland’s economic competitiveness must be a key consideration in this debate. IBEC looks forward to playing a constructive role in the policy process."
