Laghey village is soon to have its own first ever group
sewerage scheme as part of the new €60 million Donegal Bay
Waste Management Scheme.
Excavation works are already underway at Rathneeney where
the pumping station will be constructed and along the roadside
from Abbot’s old factory. Recently, work commenced to begin
laying the gravity flow pipes up through the village. The
work has been contracted to Conwell Contracts from County
Fermanagh, who have twelve men currently working on the
project.
Donegal County Council Road Engineer, Cathal Sweeney says
the next phase of extensive street excavations will disrupt
traffic. However, he doesn’t believe roads will have to
be closed.
Householders are being encouraged to connect to the scheme,
which will serve only the village itself and not the outlying
areas. The first stage is expected to be operational by
the end of July.
