Tyrone-based Western Building Systems (WBS) has signed an
exclusive deal to manufacture eco-friendly modular home extensions,
following the completion of a £2 million (€2.45m) expansion
at the company’s Coalisland headquarters.
Valued at up to €750,000 in its first year, the agreement
will see WBS
build customised home extensions and sunrooms for Dublin company
EcoRooms.
The timber-framed structures will be built at WBS’s Coalisland
facility, with a ten-year factory certified guarantee and
then installed by EcoRooms with a projected turnaround time
of five days.
‘‘This is something we have been very much involved in for
some time now. Our team co-designed the EcoRoom and we see
a growing demand for it throughout Britain and Ireland as
unquestionably the class-leading and best value for money
solution in the home extension sector," said Declan McCloskey,
general manager of WBS.
Established in 1982, WBS provides modular fast-track construction
services to clients in the public and private sectors. As
well as general construction, it also operates divisions for
windows, roofing and timber-framed modular homes. WBS is a
family-run operation employing 80 staff. It has annual revenues
of €16 million.
The expansion of the Coalisland facility, completed last
month, has increased floor space to 6,000 square metres. It
includes a purpose built production facility, a showroom and
offices.
Commenting on the investment, WBS founder and managing director
Martin McCloskey said - ‘‘The market has been extremely tough,
but I get the real feeling we’ve turned the corner. We pride
ourselves on our versatility and, because we have invested
recently in Mountjoy and diversified into new sectors, we
can be much more responsive as fresh opportunities arise.
‘‘In the coming months, we will be competing for a range
of new projects in Britain and Ireland. I believe that our
strong experience, coupled with the undoubted skill of our
workforce, will enable us to compete effectively in what is
unquestionably a tough business development environment."
