In the UK, Tesco, Waitrose and Sainsbury's have become the
latest retailers to sign up to a recently-launched water filter
cartridge recycling initiative operated by filter manufacturer
Brita.
The scheme - which has already been joined by John Lewis
and Argos - involves Brita's permanent blue recycling bins
being placed in shops, with 157 placed in Tesco stores from
June 2 and bins set to appear in selected Waitrose and Sainsbury's
stores from next month.
Brita's marketing director Neal Jones said - "Every one of
our cartridges is 100% recyclable and this new initiative
is the next step towards reducing our impact on the planet.
Our recycling scheme provides a simpler route for consumers
to return their cartridges to us for recycling.
"The millions of cartridges returned will reduce waste
and conserve raw materials and natural resources."
