A recent seminar on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
held in Castlemartyr, Co Cork was hosted by East Cork Area
Development.
Representatives from a number of large corporations including
- Janssen, FMC, GE Healthcare and Gilead Sciences
- attended to gain an insight into the benefits of I.S.393
Energy Management Systems. Dr. Elmer Morrissey, an energy
engineer from the RPS Curraheen office was a keynote speaker.
Outlining how I.S.393 can be used to formalise an energy
management system within a corporate structure, Dr. Morrissey
illustrated how this system can help reduce environmental
impacts and mitigate energy usage, whilst allowing companies
to operate more efficiently and reduce operational costs.
This also provided the companies with a clear overview on
how this system contributes to their corporate and social
responsibilities. The seminar generated considerable local
interest - receiving coverage in the Business section of both
The Examiner and The Evening Echo.
A highly-qualified civil and energy engineer, Dr. Morrissey
has in-depth building services and energy engineering experience.
He has worked on energy conservation projects within the industrial
and commercial sectors and has presented several lectures
at University College Cork on the topic of Building Information
Models and building energy simulation in the commercial
industry.
