In his latest commentary, Professor Frank Convery, Chairperson
of Comhar - the Sustainable Development Council (SDC) - looks
at the relationship between size and sustainability.
This relationship covers such topics as -
- the impact of heavier air passengers on CO2
emissions;
- the impact of bigger cars on parking space construction
and requirements - and
- the impact of big houses on scarce raw materials.
Professor Convery asks the question - should the smaller
continue to pay for the bigger? He suggests that if you
are of the larger version the next time when you travel
by air, you could consider purchasing your more svelt
fellow passenger a glass of wine and a meal to acknowledge
the fact that their fare is helping to subsidise your excess
weight.
