Hilton cuts energy consumption by 10%

Hilton Hotels claims to have reduced energy consumption by 10% in 2007 in its 80-plus properties in Europe.

The chain said water consumption has fallen by 5% - the equivalent to nearly 75 Olympic-sized swimming pools.

"In just two years, we are seeing some very real and tangible results across Europe" - said Wolfgang M. Neumann, president Hilton Hotels Europe. "We made a commitment in January 2006 to think green, take action and responsibility to switch to more environmentally sustainable methods of working - today's results speak for themselves.

"The latest results show that we are on course to achieve our 2009 target of reducing energy consumption by 15%" - he added.
