Chateau Mcely is the first five-star hotel to be awarded
an official green certificate by the Czech Environment Ministry,
as recognition of its eco-friendly initiatives.
Nestled in the historic forest of the north-eastern part
of Central Bohemia, Chateau Mcely was recently reconstructed
back to its former classical splendour and has instilled a
range of green principles to the day-to-day running of the
hotel. It is the second only five-star green hotel in the
whole of the European Union to be certified and to display
the European Union’s ecological flower symbol.
Owner of Chateau Mcely, PhD Dr. James Cusumano has been instrumental
in achieving this highly-coveted green award. An avid supporter
in protecting the environment and other worldwide issues -
such as global warming and the dependence on oil - Dr Cusumano
has also published his own book titled - 'Freedom from
Mid-East Oil'.
Since the hotel opened, a modern heating system has been
based on use of split fuel-wood that also heats the water.
Windows in the chateau have been specially designed to prevent
any heat leaks and environmentally friendly electricity flows
throughout the entire building through renewable sources.
Rainwater is collected to irrigate the parklands and there
is a wastewater treatment station on site.
Chateau Mcely has been a hunting lodge for much of its history
and today its meat and vegetables are organically sourced.
Local venison and the traditional Czech mushroom-picking influences
the hotel’s menus and wild mushrooms grown from the forest
are infused throughout - marinated in organically-grown salads
and in many of the dishes.
Located less than an hour’s drive from the centre of Prague,
Chateau Mcely offers an idyllic and relaxing haven of 24 individually-designed
suites and rooms. There is a fine-dining restaurant - Piano
Noble, meeting and ceremonial halls, a medieval Alchymist
Club, a 2000-volume library, a roof-top astronomical observatory,
as well as a wellness centre and a patio with a custom-designed
jacuzzi - all surrounded by the beautiful St Georges Forest.
