Electric vehicle moves clinical waste at Princess of Wales hospital

A bespoke electric vehicle for transporting clinical waste has recently been delivered to the Hotel Services department at the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend.

The Cushman 340 tug - which is produced by Ransomes Jacobsen Ltd, the Ipswich-based manufacturer of electric vehicles - has been supplied to the Bro Morgannwg NHS Trust by Birds Vehicle Solutions - located at Cowbridge in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Hotel Services' Nigel Radcliffe commented - "Initially we were going to fit a cab to our existing ageing vehicle, but, after discussions with Birds, it became apparent that a better solution would be a new, modern machine with integral cab. For obvious health and safety reasons, our staff are required to move clinical and other waste at all times - irrespective of the weather - so a cab ensures that they can operate effectively.

"We selected Bird's Vehicle Solutions as our preferred supplier because they were able to provide professional advice, a vehicle that fully meets our needs and they can provide that all important after sales support, quickly and efficiently."

Richard Shelley, Territory Sales Manager at Birds added - "We are delighted to have won this business as it reflects our commitment to sourcing equipment that meets - and often surpasses - clients' expectations. Within our product offering, we have vehicles that can fit - or be adapted to fit - most applications."
